BREAKTHROUGH HOUSTON FALL RECEPTION 2013

On October 24th, Advisory Council member Dawn Hanson hosted a reception at her home for our faithful supporters and new friends to learn more about the people and activities that make Breakthrough such a success. Guests enjoyed delicious light bites from Ruggles Green, sipped wine from Fresh Market, sampled a variety of selections from Karbach Brewing Company, and bid on a dinner for four donated by Liberty Kitchen.

Dawn Hanson spoke about the important influence of programs like Breakthrough for the academic and leadership development opportunities offered to motivated, underserved students and to passionate, dedicated intern teachers. Current BTH intern teachers Jemina Bouma, a senior at Rice University, and Jake Peacock, a senior at St. John’s School, told guests about their life-changing, hands-on experiences teaching and working with our young scholars. They also report that, thanks to Breakthrough, they can envision teaching as part of their future career plans.
