2014 Graduation Luncheon

On April 24th, Breakthrough supporters, students, and parents joined co-chairs Kate and Shawn Gross & Kara and Dax Sanders to celebrate the graduating class of 2014 at our annual Graduation Luncheon at the Junior League of Houston. Breakthrough Houston Executive/Program Director, Kathy Heinzerling, gave a special welcome to our graduating seniors as they entered the ballroom with their chaperones, and she proudly reported that 100% of our graduating seniors have been accepted to college. They plan to attend schools like Georgetown University, University of Chicago, and University of Houston Honors Program. To continue the celebration, senior Sira Ntagha shared her experience as a Breakthrough Houston student/teacher and announced that she would be attending Southern Methodist University as a Hunt Leadership Scholar in the fall. Keynote speaker, Doug Foshee, shared his personal family story and urged us all to add a push to the flywheel of educational change.  Through his words, he illustrated how we as a community can create the momentum needed for improving the state of education in Houston and beyond.  His remarks and data showed us that programs like Breakthrough Houston are making a difference and can truly create a breakthrough in the lives of Houston’s deserving youth.
