2015 Fall Coffee

On October 1, 2015, Breakthrough Houston (BTH) held an intimate coffee at the home of co-chairs Consuelo and Ian Macpherson to kick off its 8th annual luncheon, Building Our Future.

Fellow co-chairs, Ting Bresnahan and Lauren Morgan, last year’s keynote speaker Laura Arnold, Breakthrough staff, and members of the luncheon host committee gathered to celebrate the spring event, which will feature a keynote address by Ann Stern, President of Houston Endowment.  Guests at the coffee included new friends and familiar faces: Viviana Denechaud, Katie Forney, Allison Leibman, Tennie Ott, Sue Sim, Maggie Vermillion, Molly Voorhees, and Vicky Wight.

The event also celebrated the first of a three-year expansion plan that will increase numbers of students, teachers, and families served. Executive Director, Kathy Heinzerling, credits the success of the program to “the remarkable students, teachers, families, and, of course, generous donors who make it possible for us to offer this life-changing opportunity to even more students and future educators.”

With an aim to draw an even larger crowd and raise more than a record-breaking $110,000, this year’s Building Our Future luncheon will take place on Monday, February 29th, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the newly finished Flores Hall and Campus Center at St. John’s School. The luncheon will salute the seniors who have dedicated six years of hard work toward the goal of graduating from high school and gaining college admission.  Co-chair Consuelo Macpherson adds, “We could not think of a more beautiful and fitting location to raise awareness about Breakthrough Houston and celebrate the unique partnership that it enjoys with St. John’s and Episcopal High School.”
