2015 Graduation Luncheon

Keys to Success

On February 25th, Breakthrough supporters, students, and parents joined co-chairs Viviana and David Denechaud, Megan and Drew Morris, and Vanessa and Eduardo Sanchez to celebrate the graduating class of 2015 at our annual Graduation Luncheon at the Junior League of Houston. Keynote speaker, Laura Arnold, honored graduating seniors and discussed strategies for closing the region’s education achievement gap.  A former Breakthrough Teaching Fellow and current teacher at KIPP Connect also spoke at the luncheon, sharing her personal experience with BTH. “I discovered the roots of why I teach,” said Ms. Cain. “I teach for the kids. Breakthrough gave me a more personal relationship with my students, and that allowed me . . . to see myself in a new way.  At Breakthrough Houston, you teach much more than academics and you learn more than effective teaching strategies.”

BTH Executive Director Kathy Heinzerling and Advisory Council Chair Carolyn Dorros declared the event a tremendous success, both in terms of attendance and total dollars raised. Dorros commented, “Laura Arnold reminded all of us of our obligation to do the hard work to solve today’s crisis in education while Breakthrough alum Catherine Cain gave us hope in her example of the optimism and potential of the next generation of teachers.”
