Monica Tierrablanca

Monica was born and raised in Houston Texas, but moved to Denver Colorado after high school to attend Regis University. After graduating with her Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Neuroscience, Monica moved back home and had the opportunity to provide academic advising to 9th-12th grade students, and later Manage the Student Support Program at her alma mater, Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston. It was here that she discovered a passion for supporting students holistically and creating impactful relationships with them as they journeyed through high school and beyond. During this time, Monica also earned her Masters in Applied Psychology (also from Regis University) where she studied the impact that socioeconomic status, culture, and childhood trauma can have on academic attainment.

Monica is very excited to join the Breakthrough Houston College Bound Team as the 9th Grade Program Manager and looks forward to continuing her passion of supporting students. When she isn’t working, Monica enjoys reading, going to the movies, crafting, and playing with her pets. However, Monica finds the most joy in spending as much time as possible with her family.
