The Dean of Faculty serves as the instructional and cultural leader of Breakthrough Houston’s Summer Program. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of Instructional Coaches to coach and support a diverse group of novice Teaching Fellows—ages 17–22. Many Teaching Fellows will be teaching for the first time, and your guidance will help them navigate one of the most challenging and formative professional experiences of their lives. As a warm demander, you’ll blend high expectations with deep care—challenging Fellows to deliver excellent instruction while nurturing their confidence, wellbeing, and growth. The Dean of Students serves as the heart of Breakthrough’s summer community—ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and inspired. This role leads with empathy and clarity, balancing structure with care. The Dean builds trusting relationships with students and families, cultivates a joyful culture, and ensures every aspect of the program runs smoothly and safely.

We are looking for volunteer College Essay Coaches to virtually help 1-3 high school seniors perfect their college applications by providing feedback on their personal statement and any supplemental essays they may have from March to December 2024. Coaches do not need to have previous college access/counseling experience (although it is welcome!). This opportunity is a great way to build a relationship with an amazing young person and help them navigate a process that can feel really overwhelming.
