Dear Friends and Supporters,
As I wrap up my time with Breakthrough Houston, I do so with a full heart and deep appreciation. These past two years have been truly transformative — for me personally, and I hope for the organization as well. It has been an extraordinary privilege to work alongside our brilliant students and Teaching Fellows, our phenomenal staff, and the community partners who make this work possible.
Breakthrough Houston is, at its core, about relationships — and it is those relationships that have made this journey so meaningful. I have been inspired every day by the stories of our alumni who return to give back, by the commitment of our team, and by the unwavering belief in what’s possible when young people are met with opportunity, guidance, and care.
During my time here, we’ve expanded our reach with a third middle school program through our partnership with Awty International School, strengthened the organization’s internal systems to support long-term health and staff experience, and grown our fundraising base to set the stage for sustainable impact. We’ve also welcomed new partners and champions whose investment has helped open new doors for both students and Teaching Fellows.
And still — there is more to do. In a rapidly shifting landscape for education and nonprofit work, Breakthrough Houston sits at the vital intersection of equity, access, and innovation. We must remain focused on ensuring students have pathways to postsecondary success, and that aspiring educators have spaces to learn and lead before they enter the classroom. This work takes resolve, vision, and community — and I know this organization has all three.
I leave with deep confidence in the future under the direction of Breakthrough’s new leadership and the strength of the team. More than 800 students and hundreds of Teaching Fellows are counting on us — and I hope you’ll continue showing up for them with your ideas, your resources, and your belief.
Thank you for making this chapter of my professional life so rich. While I’ll be stepping into a new role with Breakthrough Collaborative, I’ll always be cheering on Breakthrough Houston — a place that has a permanent spot in my heart.
With gratitude,
Angie
